Visiting South Bend for the weekend, stopped by Steak & Shake for a delicious vanilla shake and double steakburger, and saw this ad in the drive-thru:
Bible readers will recognize the ad as a pun on Genesis 1:28:
“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
- King James Version, Genesis 1:28
Only in Indiana would such an ad be approved; I doubt Massachusetts or the Northeast would approve an advertisement based on knowledge of a Biblical quote.
This past weekend I went on a Cursillo at St. Basil’s in Methuen. I had heard it was a life-changing, once in a lifetime experience, and it didn’t disappoint.
I feel pretty knowledgeable in Catholocism after 16 years of Catholic school and lots of reading – everything from Mere Christianity to Theology of the Body. I’m also pretty well travelled – St. Peter’s, the Curate of Ars, Lourdes, Fatima, the Jordan River, and so on.
I feel like I knew of Jesus before, but I feel that I know Jesus now as the living, risen Christ. When I walk around Boston now, I see Christ in others and wonder how many other Cursillistas are walking with me. It’s brought me a newfound sense of peace and I’m eager to bring this peace to others.
I am glad I took all my travels and reading to get me to this point, and that I took the Cursillo to take me to the next step in my spiritual journey.
Looks like Notre Dame will one day be home to yet another men’s dorm:
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at Thursday (March 8th) for Duncan Hall, a new men’s residence at the University of Notre Dame underwritten with a gift from Raymond T. Duncan, a 1952 Notre Dame graduate, president of Duncan Oil Inc. in
Denver and owner of Silver Oak Cellars in
Oakville, Calif.Home to 232 undergraduate students, Duncan Hall, a 68,482- square-foot, three-story building, will be located west of McGlinn Hall on the University’s West Quad. It will feature six sections, each with a dedicated study space and social lounge organized around a central lounge with a kitchen and vending area. Each section will contain single rooms, doubles and triples. In addition, rooms for four will feature bay windows and private bathrooms. A chapel with a vaulted ceiling will be located on the second floor.
Bay windows? Private bathrooms??? And here we thought it would be awesome to get a washer and dryer in good old Alumni Hall.
Over President’s Day weekend, I visited South Bend and got a chance to visit the Grotto on the Notre Dame campus.
It was lightly snowing, and snow covered the Grotto and the benches, even putting out the candles that had been lit on the right side of the cave.
A thick layer of snow covered every surface… except for the kneeling bench in front of the Grotto, kept clean by a steady stream of prayers. Even in the cold, people kept coming to send up prayers before the statue of Our Lady.
