Labryinth designs
June 19, 2007
A recent Metafilter post linked to the World Wide Labyrinth Locator, a database of labyrinths around the world. I found a number of labyrinths within driving distance of Boston, but most were at churches.
Also, most appeared to be based on the one at Chartres Cathedral, which follows a single path towards a eight-petalled flower design in the middle. A quick Flickr search brought up a number of photos tagged with labyrinth, which seemed to follow the same design.
Interested in this common design, I found the Labyrinth Society’s list of labyrinth types. For me, taking time to understand the mathematical patterns generated from the labyrinth was more meditative (and enjoyable) than taking the time to walk the path.
